Elena Smith

Instructor of Russian

Ph.D. St. Petersburg State University, Russia

 

Elena received her Doctorate in English Linguistics and Master’s degree in Philology in German languages from St. Petersburg State University in Russia. She teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) at Washington State University and has also taught English in Russia, Finland, and Japan. In addition to ESL, she is currently teaching Russian language and Contemporary Russian Culture at WSU. Elena’s main research publications are devoted to English grammar. Elena is currently President of The Washington Association for the Education of Speakers of Other Languages (WAESOL). She has presented at numerous conferences on topics related to second language instruction. Elena’s hobby is writing, and she published her first novel "Why Birches Are White" in 2006.
