Associate Professor (Ph.D. University of Texas 1989). During her academic career she has
studied and conducted research frequently in Germany. She specializes in post-war German
literature and culture and has published on the Historikerstreit, and the works of
Siegfried Lenz, Jurek Becker, and Günter de Bruyn. She is currently working on the interplay
between narrative strategies and identity in autobiographies published by East German authors
following the Wende. Professor Halverson was awarded the WSU Honors College Faculty Award for 2002, and in
August 2005 was awarded a national Certificate of Merit by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) and
the Goethe-Institute New York.
