In addition to the majors and minors programs, classes are also offered

Language courses offered in the department stress learning a language
within a cultural context. Emphasis is placed on all four language skills:
speaking, listening, reading and writing to encourage maximum
functionality in the language. Students should note that by placing at
an appropriate higher level language course and getting a B or better,
they may be eligible to receive up to 8 additional departmental advanced
placement credit.
NEW courses on film, literature and culture taught at the 100-level in
English carry a GER designation [H, G, S,
or I] and are open to all interested students, not just majors
and minors in FL. Some of these courses focus on a single language
(French Film, German Culture, Asian Literature in Translation); others
offer a comparative study of foreign film, literature, or culture (these
are listed under FORL – 110, 120, 130).
A new course, FORL 220, looks at Global Studies from a Regional
Perspective – this course also carries a GER [G] and is taught in
English.
Film, literature, and culture courses at the 300-level are generally
taught in the target language, and may focus on the material from a
variety of perspectives – historical, thematic, by genre, by
author/artist, etc.
