| Summary | This semester’s DFLC Faculty Speaker Series featured Distinguished Professor Birgitta Ingemanson (Professor of Russian), whose talk was titled “A Mosaic of Cultures: Songs with Photos and Poetry; Thoughts on Place, People, and Life.” Professor Ingemanson’s presentation used music and photographs to weave together a retrospective of personal and professional experiences that traversed an array of cultures, histories, and languages. | Title | Universidad de Costa Rica Exchange by Nick Tratz | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Summary | Nick Tratz, a Teaching Assistant of Spanish, was the first participant of a Graduate Program Exchange with the "Universidad de Costa Rica" in fall 2010. During the presentation he shared with us his experiences in Costa Rica, addressing issues as important as the process of adaptation to a new culture and environment, the challenges of working and studying at a different institution, the novelty of living with a Costa Rican family, the benefits of being fully immerse in a Latin American country for one semester, money/expenses related issues, and much more. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Summary | A panel discussion of knowledge and skills essential to succeeding in the global environment. Panelists will provide a succinct list of things they have found to be necessary for work outside the United States including, but not limited to, the following areas: humanitarian efforts, business, scholarship, research, and national security. | Summary | Through funding by the UISFL Grant and DFLC, the Department hosted Japanese Literature specialist Dr. Marvin Marcus (Washington University in St. Louis). Dr. Marcus gave a presentation and photo exhibition, titled "Traditional Japan Joins the Twenty-First Century," that featured his photography and deliberated on his experiences in Japan. | ||||||||||||||

| Summary | This sponsored activity by the DFLC and the WSU International Center gathered more than 100 students, faculty and community members to listen Spanish music played by the Pullman Community Symphonic Band. Ten students of Foreign Languages were awarded for their excellence in the “les falles” contest that took place during the week at the Language Learning Resource Center. | ||
