Help Page For Microsoft Word 2003

1. Open the Microsoft Word program.

2. Once Word has started, look to the left of the Windows System Tray on the Windows Taskbar, at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.You should see a small button that says EN. This is the LANGUAGE BAR; it allows you to change the language that you type in. Note that the Word Document must be the currently selected window or else the language bar may NOT be visible.


3. Click on the EN button and from the menu that appears, choose CHINESE (PRC).

4. You are now in Chinese Language Mode. Right click on the CH Button and choose RESTORE LANGUAGE BAR. The language bar should move to the very top of the screen.

5. On the right ride of the Language Bar there is a small button that looks like an down-arrow. Click the button to get a pull down menu of additional buttons to add to your language bar.




6. Choose the button marked CHARSET or Character Set to add it to the Language Bar.
7. Now press the Charset button to switch from Simplified Chinese Characters to Traditional Chinese Characters.

8. Select Chinese language input by clicking on the Language button to toggle it from this:

Now, once you begin typing in your document, you can type phonetically in Pinyin, hit return, and the computer will automatically convert your words into Chinese characters.

If you type a Chinese word, for example: JIAN, and the computer does not give you the required Character, simply right-click on the character to have a menu displaying all of the possible variations of Characters for the Pinyin pronunciation that you have typed. Note that there are arrows on the right side of this menu that offer additional character choices.
