The DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND CULTURES offers various scholarship opportunities to students enrolled in a foreign language class. To obtain application information concerning these scholarships, see the appropriate section below, based on enrollment status and/or scholarship purpose.

DFLC NEW STUDENTS Scholarships
Eligibility:
Scholarships are available to incoming high school students who have an interest in pursuing foreign language studies at WSU, either as majors or as minors; for WSU Freshmen or Sophomores, or for transfer students who have not taken a foreign language course at WSU before, and who have an interest in pursuing further language studies either as majors or minors. In order to be eligible to receive these scholarships, you must declare intent to sign up for foreign language courses in the semester/year for which you receive the award. There is an enrollment requirement, that is, you must be enrolled in a WSU-Pullman foreign language course in the semester/year for which you receive the award. If you do not comply, the funds will be retired from your student account. Priority will be given to students who show a potential for continuing study in the WSU foreign language program.

DFLC CONTINUING STUDENTS Scholarships
Eligibility:
Students must be full-time, regularly-enrolled and in good academic standing during the period covered by the award and must be certified or pursuing certification as a major or minor in Foreign Languages. Students must be enrolled during the award period in Foreign Language courses appropriate to the Foreign Languages major/minor program of study. This enrollment requirement is strictly observed.

DFLC STUDY ABROAD Scholarships
Students must be declared minors or majors in a foreign language program, and have been accepted to participate in a WSU approved Study Abroad program. Priority will be given to students who demonstrate a potential for continuing study in the WSU program after the study abroad experience. Students who are participating in the Study Abroad program during the award period must provide evidence of their acceptance from the Education Abroad/International Programs into the Study Abroad Program.

The scholarships awarded annually by the Department of Foreign Languages & Cultures, are funded through the following endowments, established by generous donors and friends of the department. When submitting an application, you do not need to identify a particular endowment. That is done automatically.

Business and Foreign Language Fellowship Program - Sponsored by BOEING
An opportunity for business majors to gain proficiency in a foreign language by combining course work with an intensive immersion experience in the foreign language of their choice. After gaining foreign language proficiency recipients are eligible for a summer internship with the Boeing Company. Any certified business major may apply. Students intending to certify a major in the College of Business may also apply upon presentation of a statement of intention and documentation of their progress toward meeting certification requirements. Washington Association For Language Teaching (WAFLT)
STUDENT EXCEL SCHOLARSHIPS
The Washington Association for Language Teaching offers up to six $500.00 scholarships each year to Washington residents taking advanced world language courses at the university level. The award is merit based rather than need based. The application deadline for the next year is generally the beginning of March, and the notification of award will be made in early May.
